remember

I was sleeping, my phone rang and I was too tired to answer. It went to my answering machine, my dad began to talk. He told me that we were being attacked, he thought it was terrorists and that two planes had just flown into the trade center towers. I remember hearing him say that we were being attacked on American soil. I got out of bed and started to run toward our TV room on our campus, it was already packed with students. I wedged my way in there to watch EVERYTHING unfold for the next 10 hours. ACC, my college, was only a few minutes away from Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport. I remember the silence in the air, all planes had been grounded. The normal sounds of the engine roaring for take off was no longer. Atlanta was silent and every now and then, during the day, a fighter jet would fly over the city for security.
3 months later I had gone to New York to work with victims. I will never forget meeting a man, dressed just like a New Yorker, he was still looking for his brother, 3 months later, he was still looking for his brother.
I give thanks this morning to the men and women that have fought to keep this from happening again, and I pray for peace for those who lost a mom or dad, brother or sister, aunt or uncle, or a best friend. I also think about those who still have evil in their hearts to bring terror to people, may they meet Jesus.
I ask you to take a moment to just think about that day.
